Nigel's Move (5 counts ; 10 musical beats)

Also known as: Hatch Flick.

Steps

1: (Step back)

The lady faces south directly in front of the man, who faces north.

The man holds the lady's right hand in his right hand.

The man leads the lady to move backwards — by pushing her right hand slightly with his right hand — as he moves backwards-left off the lady's line, leaving it free for her to step forwards.

2: ()

The lady faces south stepped away in front of and slightly on the right of the man, who faces north.

The man holds the lady's right hand in his right hand — the man's left hand is in a hammerlock (behind his back) so that his left hand is near to his right waist.

The man leads the lady to move forwards and to take his left hand in her left hand — by pulling her right hand slightly with his right hand — as he moves forwards so that the lady comes into his right side.

Some men signal the Nigel's Move by placing their left arm in a hammerlock position, making their left hand available near their right waist, for the lady to take his left hand in her left hand.

3: ()

The lady faces south on the right side of the man, who faces north.

The man holds the lady's left hand in his left hand and holds the lady's right hand in his right hand — the man's left hand is behind his back — the man's right hand is near to his left shoulder.

The man leads the lady to rotate 180o clockwise (with weight on her right leg) — by bringing his right hand (and the lady's right hand) across to his right and then releasing the lady's right hand from his right hand.

One “original” style, was for both partners to mirror each other with stylised right arms; with the right arm at shoulder height pointing to the right with the right forearm pointing vertically, palm facing forwards — sometimes described as “how!”, or as a policeman's stop sign.

4: ()

The lady faces north close to on the right side of the man, who faces north.

The man holds the lady's left hand in his left hand — the man's left hand is behind his back — the man's right hand is held in an “L-shape” — the lady's right hand is held in an “L-shape”.

The man leads the lady to move backwards-left and spin 360o anticlockwise (with weight on her left leg) — by releasing her left hand after pushing it slightly with his left hand — as he moves forwards-right and spins 180o anticlockwise (with weight on his left leg).

5: (Catch, and step back)

The lady faces north stepped away directly in front of the man, who faces south.

The man typically catches both of the lady's hands in a double handhold, or catches the lady's right hand in either of his hands.

The man typically catches the lady's hands in a double handhold, or catches the lady's right hand in either his left or right hand. The man leads the lady to finish the spin (placing weight onto her right foot as a brake and then stepping back on her left leg) — by pushing her hand(s) slightly with his hand(s) — as he finishes the spin (placing weight onto his right foot as a brake and then stepping back on his left leg).

6: (Finish)

The lady faces north stepped away directly in front of the man, who faces south.

The man typically has a double handhold with the lady, or holds the lady's right hand in either of his hands at waist height.
